A Different Approach to Prevention

The Maternal Fatherhood Initiative™ (MFI) is an evidence-informed prevention framework designed to improve maternal, child, and family outcomes by intentionally preparing, engaging, supporting, and strengthening fathers alongside mothers from pregnancy through adolescence.
Unlike traditional approaches that often engage fathers only after families experience challenges, the Maternal Fatherhood Initiative™ recognizes fathers as essential partners in prevention. The framework equips fathers with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to actively contribute to healthy pregnancies, positive birth outcomes, child development, family stability, and long-term community well-being.
The framework is designed to help healthcare systems, public agencies, community organizations, and policymakers intentionally integrate fathers into family-centered services while strengthening mothers and improving outcomes for children.
